A huge crowd lined the streets of Birmingham for the 31st annual St. Patrick's Day Parade at 1:30 p.m.. Irish flags waved as people on the floats threw candy, plastic shamrocks and green beads to the crowd.
The parade, led by the Ian Sturrock Memorial Pipe Band made its way up 10th Avenue South from UAB through Five Points South and ended at Cobb Lane.
REV Birmingham and Five Points South sponsor the parade every year. 20th Street South was packed with revelers 5 deep in some spots to view the parade and catch carnival throws.
The parade has become a staple for the Five Points South area and is drawing larger crowds every year. Local restaurants and pubs see larger crowds around parade time.
