Meet newlyweds Emma and Jon Chapman, the British couple behind THAT Lego wedding cake, which went viral last week and prompted orders from across the world.
The influx of orders to family-owned baking business in South London, Cupcakes by SJ (aka Emma’s cousin, aunt and uncle), was so huge, they even had to take to Facebook to say they couldn’t possibly fulfill them.
Emma admits she and Jon were ‘just truly blown away with how much interest our cake has received.’
As for how it came about, she told Metro.co.uk: ‘it was a real team effort’. She and Jon knew they wanted a Lego cake for their Lego-themed wedding (more on that later), so Emma asked her Uncle Mike, Aunty Ann and Cousin Sam to lend their baking genius.

Together, they came up with the three-tier design (there were chocolate, Madeira cake and fruit cake layers). Jon then had the idea of adding little Lego builders and having them rolling back the icing to reveal the Lego bricks (in red, yellow and blue, their wedding colour scheme).
As for the big day itself, Emma explains that because she’s been with Jon for 21 years – they have a three-year-old son Lucas together – they didn’t want a big, traditional wedding.
Instead, they got married on June 6 at the registry office in Portsmouth and had their reception at their local – the Rose In June pub. And they went for something fun and special to them: a Lego themed wedding.

There was a Lego post-box, built by Jon, for guests to post comments (instead of a guest book), a sweet buffet was laid out in Lego man heads, the button holes were Duplo flowers for the ladies and mini figures for the men, and all the kids got party buckets with a colour-your-own figurine.

Best of all, Emma, who wore navy to fit the theme, walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of ‘Everything is Awesome’.

But, Emma admits, she and Jon never expected their quiet family ceremony to become news around the world. ‘What was a quiet affair has turned into an internet sensation, all because of the cake,’ she says.

She adds: ‘It’s just surreal that our wedding cake has been seen all over the world. Mike and Sam work full time and make cakes as a hobby for friends and family, so we never expected one photo to go viral like it did.
‘But it’s great for them to get the accolades they deserve, because the cake is amazing. It’s just crazy that you can talk to a complete stranger, but they’ve seen our wedding cake!’
As for the very lucky wedding guests, well, they really enjoyed the cake.
‘Fantastically imaginative! The edible bricks really made it,’ said one. Another friend added: ‘It was a unique cake for a unique couple.’
In other words, everything was totally awesome.
