Monkstar and Grime original and Newham’s finest Godsgift link up on a brand new track. Tryna Get By has a classic Grime feel to it – openly conveying a simple yet deep story – .
The video follows Godsgift posing as a postman who is “Tryna Get By”. His choice of outfit (a Royal Mail postman) represents the idea that he is a normal, hardworking local. He parodies the Royal Mail logo into a ‘Loyal Male’ badge. Suggesting that he’s a good guy. Similarly to the postman outfit, at the recent KA Drinks & GRM Daily Rated Awards, the same outfit was worn by Poet, both artists play on the roles of everyday average guys that are trying to make a humble living. Could this be the start of a new trend?
The director features clips where Godsgift is seen arguing with police who are interrupting him “Tryna Get By”, and the video is almost an active protest against police in order to stop harassing him, which can be relatable to many people worldwide.
J Fresh’s beat brings a modern yet grimey feeling to the song, whilst Godsgift’s known flow and meaningful lyrics add a solid foundation, completing the song. Make sure to give this one a listen if you’re trying to get your old school Grime vibes on.
