Shortly after her body was discovered the president of the Superior Tribunal of the city, Edgar Elias Azar, said: “She suffered what appear to have been numerous blows, or in other words, she was beaten to death.”
But then in a shocking flip-flop her death was then labelled an accident by authorities, who said that new evidence had come to light indicating that she had fallen from the roof of her apartment building, crashing 40 feet to the ground.
Stephanie Magon Ramirez, 23, from Cali in Colombia, but had moved to the Mexican capital Mexico City to work for a local modelling agency.
The New Icon Model agency had offered her a 6 month contract so the young mum left her husband and four-year-old son in her home country to fulfil her dream of being a TV presenter.
But the young mum’s new life failed to be as glamorous as she hoped as she was living in a cheap flat sleeping on a terrace with several other aspiring models.
An employee from the modelling agency seemed to confirm this by saying: “There is no doubt that she had been drinking and taking drugs and as a result she fell. We all know that she went out the night before partying, she was seen in a bad state in the toilet and when they took her home she was so drunk and drugged that she simply fell from the terrace.”
One neighbour said: "I was preparing my things to go on a trip at around 6am when I heard a sound as if a gas tank had exploded and then I thought something had fallen on my mother’s car, but when I looked more closely I was shocked to see it was a person lying on the asphalt and called the police."
The neighbour added that the model had only been living there for 15 days and slept upstairs on the terrace which had been made into temporary accommodation, without a kitchen and rented mostly by young women.
Another neighbour, Jennifer Acosta Ganadora, 33, described how she found "her boots, bag, underwear and handbag," on the terrace.
Back home however the dead woman's friends disagree with a suggestion she had been drinking or taking drugs and said they have never seen her drunk. One girl said: "She did not take drugs, and I never saw her drunk."
And another neighbour noted: "If you look you can see it is impossible to fall off the terrace and end up in the middle of the street where she was found. To go so far you would have to launch yourself into the air or be thrown."
Another neighbour reported that Stephanie had bruises on her face on the side which did not strike the ground. And some sources report that her missing teeth were not found where she fell.
Her husband said: "On Friday we did not talk to her and on Saturday morning we received the news, we have no idea what happened."
There has been no official indication from the autopsy that the model had alcohol in her blood, although authorities now seem to be treating the case as an accident.
Her body is still in Mexico and will be returned to her home country once all examinations are finished.
