They allegedly lured 17-year-old Jose Amaya Guardado to the forest and three of the group hacked at his face with the machete.
But when he tried to fight back Kaheem Arbelo, 20, "struck the victim with the machete several more times" until his face caved in, detectives said.
The victim was then allegedly ordered into the grave and the group then buried him alive before burning their clothes and the boy's possessions.
Desiray Strickland and Arbelo stayed behind to have sex beside the tragic teen's grave, police said.
Guardado's body was not discovered until three days later.
Horrified cousin Ana Morales said: "The body was unrecognisable and decomposed.
"His brothers could not resist to see the body.
"They were crazy with grief hoping it was not Jose."
Police believe the group killed Guardado over a debt he owed to his roommate – suspected drug dealer Arbelo.
Strickland, 18, was arrested on Wednesday while Arbelo, Jonathan Lucas, 18, and Christian Colon, 19 confessed to the crime after being picked up by police last week.
A fifth arrest is expected this week and the family have said it wants the death penalty for their son's killers.
