The upcoming EP follows her 2008 full-length debut Arrival and a 2010's Strange Song, which features a collection of reworked Leonard Cohen material. OnLamb, Kazmi draws inspiration from '60s hippie culture and artists like Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin, putting her own modern twist on their styles to deliver songs that emphasize "revelatory honesty, powerful imagery and captivating melodic and harmonic structures."
One of those tracks is "Dime Store Punks," which calls out posers, phonies and wannabes for their lack of authenticity — an idea that originated at Austin's SXSW music festival.
"I was disillusioned by all these kids running around with guitars with no really purpose or direction," she explained in a press release. "I was like 'What are you here for? Are you trying to change the world through music because that's what I am trying to do?' I know that might not be everybody's mandate, but I would like to see at least a few more people out there saying something important and doing something important and not just trying to dress and look the part."
The gritty blues-rock tune gets paired with black-and-white visuals that very clearly convey her frustration with the "style, no substance" approach to making music.
