What's a NAKED VACATION?

We've all heard of "stay-cations," but an increasing number of people, including San Antonians, are now taking "na-cations," or naked vacations.

And travel agents say its a travel niche that brings in hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

When you go on vacation, you may be trying to escape the stress of work or everyday life. Some also want to escape their clothing, and want to take it all off and just let loose. "I think it's more opening up to that other side and they are opening up to more nude travel," said Alan Martin of Rennert Travel.

Martin said he's been booking nude vacations since the early 90s. His first booking was two young women who just turned 21. They wanted to go to Hedonism in Jamaica to celebrate their birthday, in their birthday suits.

When they got back he asked them how it was. "They said it was great," said Martin. "They loved it. The only thing they wish they could change, now this has been changed by the way. When you're eating at the buffet is that they keep things covered."

He works mainly with the Hidden Beach Resort in Mexico, and said at first individuals and couples were looking to expose themselves to the experience, but that's changing. "Now lately you are getting more groups," said Martin. "Some families, but mostly more groups who are coming in and want to travel together, like 10, 20 or 30 people."

Martin said they're barely off the tarmac before they bare it all. "As soon as they get on the plane they disrobe and that starts the whole experience," said Martin. "Obviously going into another country they have to, when they land, put the clothes back on to go through customs, then they get to the resort and the clothing comes off."

Martin also said the average cost for a four-night, five-day, all-inclusive, clothing-optional vacation is about $1,500 a person, which includes airfare, but not the extra sunscreen you'd need to protect everything.
