Supergirl has been given a series order from CBS.
The network confirmed that it had placed a formal order for the show ahead of next week's upfronts announcements.
Starring Glee actress Melissa Benoist, the drama will feature Kara Zor-El come into her super powers and embrace the hero she was always destined to be.
The series comes from the creators of Arrow and The Flash and it's believed the show's will share the same universe, despite airing on different channels.
The newest incarnation of the Supergirl costume has officially been revealed asMelissa Benoist steps into the iconic look.
Keeping to the classic look from the comic book series, Melissa is seen sporting the red and blue costume complete with cape.
This updated version has the same tone and feel as the latest Man of Steel film reboot, with the classic 'S' symbol and gold trimmed mini -skirted outfit.
Melissa, who is best known for her role as Marley in Glee, won the title role in CBS's production featuring the daughter of Krypton earlier this year.
It looks like Melissa has even gone blonde for the role to keep to the original look of Supergirl.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Benoist beat out Vampire Diaries actress Claire Holt for the part.
The series is made by Warner Bros., which owns the rights to Supergirl and her more famous cousin Superman, and will be executive produced by TV veteran Greg Berlanti - the man behind comic book show Arrow - and Ali Adler from the New Normal.
The show will follow a young Kara Zor-El - who escaped Krypton during its destruction to arrive on Earth and be taken in by foster parents the Danvers.
After years of repressing her powers and hiding her secrets, Kara's forced to use her gifts to avert a disaster and then emboldened by her heroics, she sheds her mask and embraces her superhero destiny.
Supergirl first appeared as DC Comics character in 1959.
Helen Slater famously played the heroine on the big screen in 1984’s Supergirl, while Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort played Kara in long-running TV series Smallville.
The show follows a slew of similarly-themed comic book TV shows including Arrow, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Flash which stars her fellow Glee alum Grant Gustin.
Last year, Warner Bros. successfully rebooted its prized Superman franchise with Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill.
The actor will reprise the role in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, a 2016 team-up movie co-starring Ben Affleck as caped crusader Batman.
