Two childhood friends who spent their time as boys playing football and Playstation together are set to get married after one had a sex change operation.
Fay Purdham and Christopher Dodd, from Middlesbrough, were inseparable during their boyhood years - when Fay was called Kevin.
The pair last touch in their teenage years as Fay began taking gender reassignment hormones and later went under the knife to complete the transition .
But when the pair were re-united at Christopher's 21st birthday party, he realised he was attracted to his childhood pal and they soon started dating.
Christopher, 24, told The Sun: "When I saw Fay again, I was gob smacked by how beautiful she was and I fell for her immediately.
"It took me some time to get my head around the fact that she used to be my best friend Kevin but I have never looked at her in any other way other than the fact she is a gorgeous woman."
Faye, 27, said: "Now he had really grown into a handsome young man and I was very attracted to him right from the start – plus I had that feeling that he was also liking me too.
“We sat talking for ages about the old days and then suddenly, he kissed me - and it felt like the right thing to do."
As boy, Faye realised she was gay at the age of 12 before beginning to take hormones aged 16.
The pair parted ways when Christopher moved home but the former friends quickly became committed partners as romance blossomed.
After dating for around three years the couple are now planning their dream wedding and starting a family.
