HOOP SKIRTS at war

*Warning: PIRATE RADIO presentation*

You don't be seeing hoop skirts at Greek events at the University of Georgia anymore.
The UGA Student Affairs met with fraternities and sororities this week, the Athens Banner-Herald reported, to discuss the image of Greek organizations on campus. The university's Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council then sent an email to its members about the ban on hoop skirts, a style traditionally worn by women in the old South.
"The student leadership, staff and advisors agree that Antebellum hoop skirts are not appropriate in the context of some events," the email said. "We will continue to review costuming and themes for future events to ensure their appropriateness for our organizations."
The ban comes just a week after Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at the University of Oklahoma was closed after a video surfaced showing the members chanting racist slogans.
Like many Greek organizations in the south, UGA groups hold events such as "Old South Week," that includes Southern dress. The UGA SAE chapter hosts a "Magnolia Ball" each year that also features period attire.
The university banned Confederate uniforms several years ago.
