I’m sure we’ve all had that dream where we are completely naked in a public place and while most of us fear being in our birthday suit in public, there are some who don’t mind at all, there are some who love it, and then there are some who do it for the sake of art. French photographer Erica Simone is one of those who is getting nude in public for the sake of art.
Simone has been living in New York City for around 12-years now and she trying to raise enough money to publish a book of her nude adventures in the Big Apple. Well, they aren’t really adventures, she's doing every day things – only she’s completely nude while doing them. Riding the subway, clearing snow, looking for a good book to read, normal everyday life – only completely nude. On her website she describes her ideas behind the project:
As I watch an image-absorbed society care more about the sales at Barney's than the homeless people they ignore as they parade by, I began to ponder: 'What would the world feel like naked? What if we didn't have clothing to come in between us? Or if we couldn't show off our social status? What if all we had were our bodies to express our personalities?' ... From there, my photographic project was born. With a tripod and a couple ounces of adrenaline, I took to the busy streets to get a taste of New York in the nude.
She also insists she’s not trying to shock anyone, but of course there will be people who will be shocked. Simone is half way to her goal of $10,000 and promises if she reaches her goal those who buy the book will be in for a real treat. Looking at some the pictures I can tell she’s not lying about it being a real treat.
