A £100,000 dress stolen from Lupita Nyong’o at the Oscars was dumped by thieves when they realised the 6,000 pearls it was made out of were fake.
The actress' custom-made Calvin Klein dress she wore to the Academy Awards a week ago was stolen from her room in the London hotel in west Hollywood.
It was supposedly studded with thousands of white Akoya pearls sewn on by a team of 25 people over 10 weeks.

But the dress has now been found dumped in a garment bag back in the hotel.
Investigators believe the thieves took two of the pearls to a local jewellers, realised they were phoney and decided to ditch the frock.
It was found in a public toilet at the hotel.
Authorities may be investigating the possibility that the dress was swapped for a copy with fake pearls, and that the original is still out there.
