Something's changed within Bastille.
The project is veering away from the centre, retaining that innate pop nous while adding some decidedly challenging elements.
New single 'Fake It' is a case in point. The chest-crushing bass line is matched to glitchy electronics, while the vocal sample has more than a twinge of melancholy.
The voice is taken from a 1971 US National Institute of Mental Health video, and details a man who aims for a happier family life but finds himself ostracised by the local community as a hippy.
