"I didn't MEAN to show it to KIDS"

*Warning: PIRATE RADIO presentation*
A Saanich school district teacher who said he inadvertently showed a controversial video clip to elementary-age students will not be back in the classroom this semester.District superintendent Keven Elder said Thursday that Joe Winkler will not return to his Grade 4-5 class at Keating Elementary School before June.
Elder did not specify the nature of Winkler’s absence or say whether the teacher’s absence is the result of a suspension.
“We’re not describing any of the details,” Elder said. “It’s been announced in the community that he won’t be returning, and as a result, his position is being filled for the remainder of the year.”
It emerged in early April that Winkler was on paid leave after a video that included a partially visible naked woman on a beach was shown to his class.
The incident triggered an investigation by the district.
Winkler said he had intended to show a different video, and apologized in an email to parents.
The teacher was given a brief suspension for showing a video featuring bikini-clad men lip-synching in 2012. He was a Grade 4 teacher at Brentwood Elementary School at the time.
Winkler’s explanation in that instance was that he wanted the video to help start a discussion on transgender issues, but several parents were unhappy with what they saw as sexualized imagery in the footage.
Winkler came back in what Elder has described as a “supported” return that included guidance and mentorship.
