Mariah Carey is returning home to Sony where she had some of her biggest hits early in her career.
Carey will record on the Epic label and will reteam with Antonio 'L.A.' Reed with whom she worked at Def Jam. Plans are to release a greatest hits set first, to coincide with her upcoming Las Vegas show #1's; however, there are indications that the album will have some updated recordings of the songs and, possibly, a few duets.
Mariah started her career in spectacular fashion on Columbia where she released six studio and one holiday album, all of which sold three million-plus copies. She then moved over to Island Records with the album Charmbracelet in 1999 and peaked at the six million selling The Emancipation of Mimi (2005). Her next album, 2008's E=MCĂ‚² only sold 1.3 million followed by 2009's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel which only moved 550,000.
For last years Me. I Am Mariah, Carey moved to another Universal imprint, Def Jam, where the album severely underperformed. To date, the album is still struggling to make 200,000 in sales.
