Grime legend Jahmek ‘Jammer’ Power reminds us why he’s been labelled as one of the creators of grime in his new visuals to Skank on Me. Produced by @Audioslugs and directed by Bipolar Spider, the track teases what could be a new musical direction for the Lord of the Mics creator, as he drops puns in the grayscale video such as “like AJ Tracey I come from the lane”.
Reflecting on his life and career as an influential artist and producer within the UK urban music scene, the Boy Better Know member reminisces not only about his difficult past, “before the girls and before the fame”, but also his future within the music industry, “it’s not the same”, he raps, surrounded by record plaques and paintings of both himself and Boy Better Know member Skepta.
‘Skank on Me’ is the first single to drop from the upcoming mixtape ‘Are You Dumb? Vol. 5’, the fifth instalment of the highly anticipated series that will drop later this year, and already well-known artists such as Boy Better Know member JME and D Double E have been confirmed online as features.
Though Jammer has at times taken a back seat in his career, from producing to developing Lord of the Mics into a fully fledged brand, ‘Skank on Me’ is a direct hit at those who “wouldn’t bank” on him, hinting that 2018 will be a takeover for the MC.
