But what’s surprising is how drastically the length of time varies from drug to drug.
Shockingly, substances that are considered less dangerous like cannabis (class B) can be detected in your urine, blood and hair for much longer than “harder” drugs like heroin and meth (class A).
Out of all the most common narcotics, LSD clears out of your system the quickest.
It’s eliminated from the hair after three days – although an average trip doesn’t last any longer than 12 hours.
On the flip side, most other substances can still be detected in your hair for up to three months later.
Marijuana lingers in the system longer than most other chemicals but it doesn’t mean that you are necessarily high 12 hours later.
Here’s a breakdown of the approximate length of time specific drugs will be detectable in your body, courtesy of a video by Business Insider.
And while this handy guide lets you know how long each substance stays in your system, things like your height and weight, age, health condition and usage can have an effect on the actual timescale.
