A pastor from Puerto Rico is standing firm on his decision to keep his position amid calls for him to step down following the discovery of his former life as a gay porn star.
In a report by the Daily Mirror, Pastor Jose Santiago said that he has no intentions of stepping down as pastor despite the circulation of his old porn films on the internet, because he believes that the videos are being used to discredit his church.
Santiago did not deny that he was the person featured in the pornographic material that resurfaced on the web.
Instead, he explained he was called by God seven years ago, which prompted him to change his lifestyle. He has since been married to a woman and preaches the word of God in the House of Prayer Monte Santo.
"In those days I was gay and participated in homosexual activities, but God touched me, God transformed me, God gave me a woman who loves me and she loves my past. I haven't seen any of these films in years. I don't receive any money for them and it's part of a life that is over," he said according to The Mirror.
Santiago is not the first adult film star to quit the porn industry to focus on his faith.
A lesbian porn actress from Britain, Teresa Carey, shared her story on the news site Barcroft TV, telling it she experienced a religious epiphany of Jesus at the same time as her husband that "shook her to the core" and touched her emotionally.
She added that since the event, she has focused on her faith and her family and now travels the country with her "Porn Again Christian" evangelistic ministry.
"People are really positive, talking to me afterwards. That's what I'm always telling people – if Jesus could come to me, a woman who was working in the porn industry, which most people around me would think was a pretty low thing to be doing, then he can come to anybody. If he didn't condemn me for what I was doing, then he's not going to condemn you," she shared.
