An American author has sparked outrage after claiming Birmingham is 'a totally Muslim city and a no-go area for non-Muslims'.
Steve Emerson, described as a terrorism analyst, also told Fox News that parts of London have a Muslim police force who 'attack people if they don't dress according to religious rules'.
He told the American network: "In Britain, it’s not just no go zones, there are actually cities like Birmingham that are totally Muslim, where non-Muslims simply don’t go in."
Speaking to host Jeanine Pirro, he continued: "And parts of London, there are actually Muslim religious police that actually beat and actually wound seriously anyone who doesn't dress according to Muslim, religious Muslim attire.”
He has since apologised to the "beautiful city of Birmingham," and every single resident, saying he made a "terrible error" after relying on "other sources".
He has promised to take an advert out on a Birmingham newspaper and make a donation to one of the city's chairities.
The interview was roundly mocked on Twitter, under the hash tag #FoxNewsFacts.

Birmingham's one million plus population is actually 57% white and 26% Asian, 8% black and 4% mixed race. In the 2011 census, only 21% of the population identified themselves as muslim.
Emerson is a controversial figure in the US, having been accused of exaggerating the reality about Islamic extremists. He has written a number of books on the subject, including 'American Jihad: The Terrorists Living Among Us'.
But there was at least one person was impressed with Mr Emerson’s comments.
Commenting on his Investigative Project website, a viewer called Jo said: "I watched Steven Emerson....and it was great. He sheds light on the inner workings and closed camps of those who do NOT want to assimilate into their Host Country's Society."
