When you think of Wales what do you think of? Is it bare amounts of sheep? As a Welshman myself I’m aware that the Cardiff grime scene is popping at the moment, it’s one of the most underlying in the whole of the UK. Forefronted by Sonny Double 1, this guy is making some serious waves, with tracks like ‘Foreigners’ and ‘Mo’ Farah’ seeing him elevated to stardom. But he’s back with ‘Catch A Vibe’ a song that shows Sonny Double 1 is ready to take the UK by storm.
Honestly, get the bucket list, you need to see ‘Mo Farah’ performed live, it’s one of those songs that has energy from start to finish. Sonny’s new song ‘Catch A Vibe’ will have you catching a cold, with its icy beat and even colder lyrics. The Cardiff rapper jumps on the mic was an epic flow, with his lyrics working so well that you won’t be able to get them out of your head.

Anyone knows that the essence of grime was created in London, but the spirit is certainly being captured in Cardiff. Sonny Double 1 is quickly getting a cult following across the UK, with him supporting Wiley, AJ Tracey, and Dappy at their Cardiff shows. We can even see a cameo appearance from Dappy in the video for ‘Catch A Vibe.’ Sonny really does have the city on his side, and with this new song I think he will have the whole scene on his side as well.
The song was produced and directed by Corey Austin, who kills it with the visuals, with most of the video in this slick-looking club and Sonny Double 1 looking very calm and stylish. Legendary grime DJ Charlie Sloth has even recognized the talents of Sonny, with ‘Mo Farah’ being played on Radio 1 Xtra. The video that was released on Link Up Tv last year, nearly has 250,000 views, is just another example of what Sonny is doing for Cardiff at the moment.
When Astorid Boys and Sonny Double 1 link up, then you just know the track is going to be fire. Sonny talks politics on ‘Foreigners’ highlighting the many issues in our blemished society. Sonny Double 1 is a very versatile artist, he can do different sounds and each one works so well. ‘Catch A Vibe’ is a moment, from start to finish, the lyrics are said with meaning, and Sonny is putting everything into his music.
Sonny Double 1 has really raised the bar with ‘Catch A Vibe.’ It shows him as an artist, I can’t wait for more solo projects from the man, especially if they all sound like this.
