South London’s Brixton rapper Bellzey returns with fresh visuals to his songs “Drifting” on Link Up TV. The artist recently called it one his favorite tracks off his EP called “Live And You Learn”.
Listeners are aware of the deepness in Bellzey’s songs and, as expected, “Drifting”‘s delivery is very deep and meaningful to him as he says in his lyrics: “This is my story”.
The video – directed by Olu – starts off with Bellzey dropping bars in a shabby-looking, old living room while he is reminiscing about very old friends: “Talking way back, when I was an infant/ Chilling in the playground” whom he helped as they were growing up but ended up being betrayed by them.
The visuals compliment the deepness of the song, as we next see Bellzey rapping in front of a broken, old-looking mirror, as if to imply he is probably the only person whom he can trust to have this conversation with. The lyrics tell stories that Bellzey has witnessed such as hearing shots being fired in his neighborhood and feeling scared but this feeling is normal to him as people kill each other every day in the game – “this lifestyle is harsh”.
The video takes us to a scene which takes place on a different day. One of Bellzey’s friends is apparently planning to ambush him. Luckily Bellzey, who is at his house, seems to be getting a phone call which makes him become aware about one the situation. As he goes by the window, we can see 3 masked men heading towards his location, carrying guns. The video finishes with Bellzey grabbing his gun, probably ready to defend himself if necessary, and walking out of his flat.
The song is a hard. Period. It has a message, the delivery is really well worked on, the beat – produced by JC Beats – compliments the lyrics perfectly with that slow flow and the female voice over just amplifies better the delivery. Watch the video and convince yourself…
