Coal Industry's WAR on Alabama

Walter Energy will lay off 46 coal miners in Brookwood, Alabama.
After the reduction, 1,016 people will work at that mine. Walter spokesman William Stanhouse said those laid off will be eligible to reapply for open positions as they appear.
"It's simply the continued effort we make to keep these mines competitive in the market," Stanhouse said.
The drop-off in Walter's production comes as the American coal industry continues to reel from low coal prices.
Walter Energy is a public company headquartered in Birmingham that produces coal, coke, natural gas and anthracite.
Walter Energy employed 3,600 people and had revenues of $1.9 billion in 2013, according to the company's 2013 annual report.
