The South London rap collective House of Pharaohs have been showing promise for a while now, both individually and as a unit. Since 2018’s The Fix EP, the boys have been quieter than normal, except for a few solo cuts. But the HOP collective are back with a bounce!
Titled Magic City, their latest track finds them expanding their sound even more, delving into a bounce that is reminiscent of the Bay area sound, with the help of AJ Tracey’s go-to producer Nyge. Nyge’s contribution was bound to come given his cameo in House Of Pharaohs member Sam Wise’s video This Week, and co-production on Sam’s LED (Light Up).
Directed by Ray Fiasco, the trippy visuals depict the House of Pharaohs at a warehouse party where bottles, weed smoke and girls are just standard procedure. Magic City has every member of the clique spitting slick lifestyle raps in their widely ranging styles, with Kevin Taylor’s melodic delivery setting the tone for a song that’ll get a party started. This is the first offering from their upcoming Seasons project which due later this year.
As Sam Wise said in the outro, “HOP Season” is fast approaching so who knows what other surprises they’ll bring?
Check out the video for Magic City above.
