Quietly working on his latest drop, Redemption, UK rapper Jevon has used his talents to express contemporary music, enhancing the new wave of the UK scene. The word ‘Redemption’ itself is the process of saving one from sin, Jevon reflects this idea in his latest track.
The artist draws on his past obstacles and experiences and incorporates them into his song, which could potentially be a theme on his upcoming project that is due to land later this summer.
Additionally, throughout the song the instrumental shares a gospel ambience over English rap. The lyricism expressed within also describes his thoughts, including a range of biblical references like describing himself as “The chosen one like Mary and Joseph’s son”.
The XL producer reportedly admitted: “I wanted to make something that felt epic, like the bad guy in the movie you thought was dead but returns in the sequel.” The release of his first track is a taster of what is more to come from the album.
Being from a multicultural background of Brazilian, Filipino and Jamaican – the combination of identities are shown throughout his music which is different to most artists working alongside the Uk Rap and RnB genre.
