Charles Howl knows his influences, but he doesn't feel constrained by them.
Sure, there are reference points in his work - what artist doesn't? - but the way he inverts them, plays with them, affords him the space to redefine himself.
New album 'My Idol Family' is out now, with lead track 'Meet Lou's Needs' now receiving the video treatment.
The title is a delicious pun, with those Velvet Underground fixated guitars battling lyrics that sarcastically deal with Lou Reed's legacy of earnest young men in leather jackets.
Charles Howl explains: “I love Lou Reed but I don’t want to see shit imitations of him every time I go see a show or after party.”
Tune in now.
