"GARY GLITTER ruined my career."

*Warning: PIRATE RADIO presentation*

GlitterThe Glitter Band insist they knew nothing of the shamed glam rocker’s sex crimes, which they say have unfairly tarnished their reputation.
The band only played with Glitter for two years before going alone and scoring a string of top ten hits.
But original drummer Pete Phipps and bandmate Dominic Rodgers say their songs – recorded separately from Glitter’s – are still not played on the radio.

The band, unofficially known as the Glittermen while working with the singer between 1972 and 1974, barely spoke to him, said Pete, 64.
“We knew nothing of it beforehand. It came as a total shock”

He said: “Gary was driving in limousines and flying first class and we were staying in bed and breakfasts and travelling in a Transit. We never socialised.”
Pete said Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, even cut the band from a fi lm made about him.
He added: “We separated in 1974 – he hated the fact we recorded our own records.”
In total, The Glitter Band had seven top 20 hits in the mid-1970s, including Angel Face which reached number four and Goodbye My Love, which went to number two in the charts.
But Pete said since Gadd was revealed as a paedo in the 1990s, they have been frozen out because of their association with him.
He said: “We are suffering from the fallout and bad press because of his actions.
“We knew nothing of it beforehand. It came as a total shock.”

Dominic, 54, who joined the group in the late 1990s, said: “Our records are not played on the radio any more.”
The band include some Glitter songs in their set but Dominic said music producer Mike Leander was the real genius behind the Glitter sound.
