BARFTA Awards 2016

*Warning: PIRATE RADIO presentation*

The great and the good of Hollywood get ready to celebrate the very best of film at the Oscars tomorrow night – so it’s only right to shame the worst as well.
That’s just what the British Academy of Rubbish Films and Terrible Acting (Barftas) have done, singling out the most terrible films and performances from the last year.
Johnny Depp, Tom Hardy and Simon Pegg are among this year’s ‘winners’ in what is described as the British answer to the Razzies.
And there was even a special award for Tim Roth for his performance as disgraced former FIFA President Sepp Blatter in the massive flop United Passions, which took just $918 at the US box office, the worst in its history.

Tom Hardy won the Worst Accent Award at the Barftas for his portrayal of the Kray twins in Legend, pictured, specifically for voicing Ronnie, right, 'like the love-child of Alan Partridge and Dick Emery'

This year’s event was a close run thing, according to organisers, with several films fighting it out in terms of awfulness.
Barfta spokesman Camilla Wright said: ‘With the prospect of BREXIT looming and Britain facing an uncertain future on its own, we're delighted to see that appalling film-making and terrible acting is one area in which we can feel confident of being world-leaders.’
Despite starring homegrown comedy favourite Pegg, being directed by Monty Python veteran Terry Jones and featuring the rest of the Python gang, Absolutely Anything was named Worst British Film.
It followed Pegg’s disillusioned teacher who is granted god-like abilities by a group of wacky aliens – played by the Pythons – but was labelled a ‘flabby misfire’ by critics and made a paltry £2.7million at the box office.
Meanwhile Depp was named Worst Actor for his performance in Mordecai, where he plays the title role of a conman art dealer who gets involved in an elaborate heist.
But the Barfta judges said: ‘Australia, If the dog-smuggling case doesn't get him [Depp] prison time, maybe you want to take another look at Mortdecai because the performance is just criminal.’

Entourage won the Worst International Film gong, with the panel - made up of critics and industry professionals - describing it as 'just a shallow succession of cameos'
The special Brown Envelope Award went to veteran British character actor Roth, who was also nominated for Worst Actor and Worst Accent as Blatter.
The film was funded by the organisation and released before the corruption scandal erupted and essentially consigned it to the dustbin.
Tom Hardy has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars this year, but his turn as twin gangsters Reggie and Ronnie Kray in Legend saw him win the Worst Accent award for playing the latter, with judges describing him as ‘the love-child of Alan Partridge and Dick Emery’.
Worst International Film went to Entourage, the big screen version of the popular TV show, which was roundly panned by critics despite featuring a cameo from the MailOnline’s own Piers Morgan.
Hardy was also nominated for Worst British Actor, with the panel - made up of judges and industry professionals - describing his performance as the brothers as a 'big screen Hale and Pace homage'

Zac Effron in We Are Your Friends picks up a nomination for Worst International Film
Zac Effron in We Are Your Friends picks up a nomination for Worst International Film
Mortdecai: You think you know what to expect when faced with a Scottish manservant character called Jock Strap, but that's hardly the nadir of this unfunny Johnny Depp vehicle. The slapstick wouldn't have made into an episode of Chucklevision.
We Are Your Friends: Someone, like, just discovered EDM. And, like, made a film about how cool DJs are. And then got Zac Efron to play the world's most annoying DJ.
Entourage: Originally meant to send up the absurdities of Hollywood on TV, the film version is just a shallow succession of cameos. You know you're in the pits of hell when Piers Morgan turns up to play Piers Morgan.
United Passions: The film where FIFA claims to have sorted out apartheid. Where the Brits wear top hats. Where Sepp Blatter is innocent. Funded with $27million of FIFA's money, it is said to have lost $26.8 million. But did at least reach the top of one chart - USA's lowest grossing cinema release of all time.
Jupiter Ascending: The Warchowskis entirely serious film about a jet-booted, Spock-eared, space werewolf and a Russian toilet cleaner. Almost worth going to see it just for Sean Bean trying to keep a straight face while playing someone who is half human and half honeybee

WORST BRITISH FILM NOMINEES - WITH JUDGES' COMMENTS

Kill Your Friends: Kill yourself.
Legend: Tom Hardy's Alan Partridge inspired Ronnie Kray was a wonder to behold.
Absolutely Anything: Featuring perennial BARFTA nominee Simon Pegg. The Telegraph's review: 'It's often been said that Simon Pegg would agree to star in absolutely anything: now at least it's official.'
Face Of An Angel: How could you go wrong with a film about Foxy Knoxy? But Michael Winterbottom turns a recent, real-life murder into a film about himself. And his favourite medieval Italian poem.

WORST ACTOR NOMINEES - WITH JUDGES' COMMENTS

Tim Roth - his portrayal of Sepp Blatter is so simpering that it's now not possible to watch Tim Roth in a film without the overwhelming desire to push him in the face.
Johnny Depp -Depp's post Pirates of The Caribbean on-screen mid-life crisis reaches epidemic proportions here as he appears to be trying to do an impression of Terry-Thomas doing an impression of Peter Sellers in the worst Inspector Clouseau role you can ever imagine.
Tom Hardy - for the world's best (and only?) big screen Hale & Pace homage, as Ronnie and Reggie Kray in Legend.
Kate Beckinsale – (Face of an Angel) It's not really her fault, by all accounts (well, by her account) director Winterbottom didn't give her much feedback on her performance but when you find you've been upstaged by Cara Delvigne's wandering eyebrows (and boy do they move) then you know you're in trouble.
