The tragic passing of Toronto rapper Smoke Dawg almost two months ago was a devastating blow for the city’s music scene and fans all over the world. Luckily for fans Smokey left behind a collection of unreleased music which will be used for a number of posthumous releases planned to celebrate the late rapper’s life.
Today we were given the first of these releases, the new track entitled ‘No Discussion’ shows Smoke Dawg joining forces with West London’s AJ Tracey. It is also accompanied by a video which the pair were able to film before Smokey’s passing. Directed by Tunnel Vision, the visuals have been filmed in and around Toronto and show inside the Regent Park housing project which Smokey grew up in. AJ spoke of the release saying “This track means more than anything to me, because it’s me and my bro in our element, and he’s happy, genuinely happy. I know he loved this joint and I’m f*ckin happy we can share this one moment in time we shared and capture it forever.”
The new single has been produced by the well known Murda Beatz – producer behind Drake’s summer hit ‘Nice For What’ and 6ix9ine ft Nicki Minaj’s current top 10 single ‘FeFe’. He shared the involvement he had with the late rapper “Smokey and I have a couple more joints we’re going to release that will cary on his name and he will continue to be the young legend from Toronto that he is.”
Smoke Dawg’s first and final EP ‘Struggle Before Glory’ is completed and planned for release in the coming months. Meanwhile fans can enjoy ‘No Discussion’ above and on all digital streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music.
All proceeds from the single will go to Smokey’s family. RIP Smoke Dawg.
