Other creatures than handbag-toting humans inhabit Painted Canyon. Bighorn sheep, the desert tortoise, and the spotted bat all call the Mecca Hills home. None is known to accessorize. BAG: Chloe Hudson mini shoulder bag; Saks Fifth Avenue, Palm Desert.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, women’s clothes were so voluminous that dresses had thigh pockets underneath their skirts. Not until the 19th century did purses re-emerge. BAG: Jimmy Choo cross body bag; Saks Fifth Avenue, Palm Desert.

Pioneertown-based Jones studied music at UCLA. She has written songs for Prince’s keyboardist, Morris Hayes, and is currently at work on an EP, an ode to classic rock and blues. BAG: Serapian Meliné Bag Mosaico.
