Underground Hip Hop: GANGTHELABEL

*THE SYNDICATE DOES NOT EXIST*
gangthelabel-1
If we could choose one group that stood us in 2014 in developing and sound, then that Gangthelabel. These talented young guys from Ghent are quite a name for himself by creating their own style English-language HipHop, among others, by standing on the big Pukkelpop festival and opening for Kid Ink. A first mixtape coming in 2015, we should also expect a lot from them. This is our interview with the men:

For those who Gangthelabel not know, you imagine yourself briefly before!

Gangthelabel is a Ghent Hip hop collective formed in the summer of 2011 under the initiative of Aswin ( Kuston ) Van de Cotte (19), Dries ( Dro ) Overmeire (18), Gyamfi ( Dipsy ) Kyeremeh (19) & Mathieux ( Nkay Blessed ) Ngoie Kapaj (21). Still in development and in style far not really put in a box.

Gangthelabel, where does the name come from?

The name came from the username of Aswin's old YouTube channel. When we were looking for a name for the collective, Gangthelabel seemed quite appropriate (not The Gang Label / GangTheLabel / ...) and we went there just go with it ever since.

Why did you decide to make English-language hip hop?

First to speak to a wider audience, both musically and on intelligibility. We ourselves are also bigger fans of the English (US) HipHop. The challenge to be one of the few anyway to try this way makes it more interesting.

What is your inspiration for your tracks?

Good music, vibes, energy and spices.

Gangthelabel consists of 4 men (3 MCs and 1 DJ). How does a track with you about? There is first a beat ...? or?
Our tracks can result from sudden inspirations or feigning hours on an idea until there is something decent in stead built out. Although we occasionally an existing beat dare go, our productions are usually created by Aswin. Once we have chosen a path in terms of lyrics and feeling we throw all our ideas together and we work the issue further in the studio during the recordings. Erna everything is standard mixed and occasionally sent away for an external mastering.

You have now been 4 years now, yet many of your old stuff to be found no longer online, why this choice?

Since the very beginning we put all our finished creations online to hear opinions / read from and belief that everything we did was good. We are already working on creating music since we were 13-14, in the meantime we are young adult and so even though a lot has changed. At some point in our musical development we decided to pick our old videos from YouTube in order to focus more on the present and the future and to avoid possible confusion in the formation of the total picture.

You work a while on your first mixtape. What can we expect from this?

A lot of creativity and experimental music that just goes everywhere; whole mellow tracks to heavy futuristic bangers. Feel good music for different occasions, from laid back smoke sessions turned up to car tunes. We do not want to come across as lyrical rap gods who want to keep the boom bap in life that we leave to other talents. It's all love and positivity.

There are no featurings found on your tracks to date, how does it and with whom would you like to work again?

This is firstly because we are quite critical and opinionated in what we do and anyone so far not met the right people where there is mutual interest and good vibes are present. Collaborations are coming, most probably you will find on our first tape. The future will tell.

Last year you were in the act for Kid Ink and also at Pukkelpop. What you remember from this experience?

The hype and love in the audience and its size. Even though we were not then we will be in a few years in terms of live experience, it was dope showcases of which there may be many more.

You have been signed in 2014 with Universal, what are your (large) plans for the coming year?

We do not like to advance too ambitious, we can see in hindsight how big anticipate our plans. There should at least be looked at our first project, anyway a classic for the regions. Hopefully a lot of shows and perhaps our first steps abroad, who knows.
We will follow the men and keep you informed of their future projects. For more Gangthelabel follow the men on Facebook and Twitter !
