Despite being best known for his grime songs, Bow MC Cadell has had a well-documented affinity for the American trap scene. Since the start of the year, he’s released a slew of tracks which reinterpret stateside instrumentals, ranging from Rich the Kid’s ‘New Freezer’ to Tory Lanez’ ‘Bal Harbour’. The most recent of these, ‘Sawnoff Calling’, sees the 20-year-old offer an insight into his personal life, set against the backdrop of Future’s 2016 ‘Perkys Calling’ instrumental.
Over the Southside beat, Cadell reminisces about the past. He talks about friends and family at length, proudly declaring that his older brother, Wiley, “loves the fact [he] blew without him”. He also looks back on his early days on the roads, rapping: “First time I used my ting was very gory / I’m lucky that that n***a ain’t report me”.
The track’s relatively slow beat works to Cadell’s advantage, giving listeners plenty of time to digest the East Londoner’s lyrics in one of his most introspective songs yet.
Cadell’s second album, LONDON, is due for an imminent release. Stay locked to his Twitter (@CADELL) for all the latest updates.
