21-year-old Northampton MC Izzie Gibbs has blessed fans with visuals for a new song titled Outta da Hood. The track serves as the third single from the young grime upstart’s new EP, Yin Yang, and has been released just hours before the full project drops. Over a sample-based production by TantrumPRO, Izzie describes his aspirations to leave his gritty surroundings behind in pursuit of a more honest lifestyle.
On the track, he pays homage to two significant figures in grime’s history, playing on words to reference Ghetto’s song The Mountain (“I need to go to the mountains and recoup”) and old school lyricist Durrty Goodz (“I’m back on my dirt like Goodz”). The track’s message is concisely summarised in the outro, where Izzie tells the listener “I weren’t made to just stay on the block, man was born for something greater than that, just like every young G coming from the same circumstances as me”.
The video for Outta da Hood, directed by Kye Taliana, sees a young mum make a cunningly-planned getaway from her ends, and features a cameo appearance from Manga Saint Hilare. Izzie recently made a fleeting appearance on the Roll Deep veteran’s new album Outbursts from the Outskirts, featuring on the standout track Outburst001.
Izzie Gibbs’ new EP Yin Yang drops on 23 June via Dice Recordings. You can download it on Apple Music here.
